Shinfield Parish Volunteer Group
Shinfield Parish Volunteer group (SPVG) was set up in response to the Parish Plan, which outlines various initiatives that will benefit the parish, some of which require local people to get involved.
SPVG achievements so far include:
- Setting up the Shinfield Voluntary Car Service, which provides transport to the elderly and others in need to access doctors, dentists and attend hospital appointments, go on shopping trips and other types of local journeys. To enquire about using the scheme or volunteering, contact Eddie Brown.
- Setting up a visiting scheme for isolated people identified by the medical profession. SPVG is supporting “The Link” to bring this about in our community.
- Running of regular walks in and around the parish roughly once a month basis. Also the setting up of notice boards around the parish detailing the various footpaths available to walkers as well as the monitoring and maintenance of the footpaths
- Development of cycle ways, including application of pressure to get the cycleway extended on Hollow Lane. Current development of footpath 13 into a cycleway to link Spencers Wood and Shinfield is due for completion soon.
The Loddon Reach magazine is a useful source of information about SPVG's services.
